100 Days of school is always an exciting day in Division 1 classrooms. This year I thought we would dress up to celebrate. Not many of my students did, but those of us that did had fun with it. For a special writing assignment I found an app that makes you look old. My students couldn't get enough of it! just like last year, my planned activities extended over a few days, but the students loved, building with lego, making fingerprint gum-ball machines, and the always important piece of jewelry made of 100 beads! | |

It has been such a blast teaching the Grade 2 Science Unit - Small Crawling and Flying Animals! I love having the opportunity to take the students outside an experience science in the real time outside the classroom. We had a chance to explore our CCCA school yard looking for little critters.
Our classroom has also had the opportunity to enjoy some of the AMAZING resources available from the Praxis Society in Medicine Hat, AB. One of the kits from Praxis allowed to have a bug sanctuary in our classroom. The students loved watching the lady bugs they had caught as they made themselves a new temporary home. Another fun activity we had with to go along with our unit was to watch Painted Lady Butterflies go through their life-cycle. I was able to secure some larva from a colleague of mine who orders the larva from www.butterflyab.ca. Each morning we would take time to record any changes of development in our Butterfly Life Cycle Science Journal. Hopefully we will be able to witness all the different stages of development. *Fingers crossed* This is such a fun unit to teach. There is so much that one can do! I am really looking forward to our Bug Safari that we have planned at Police Point Park in Medicine Hat in June. I'm sure Mrs. Leafloor's bug explorers will have a great time and unique experience! For my India Social Studies Unit I decided to create a an interactive folder to add information too as we explore the land, people, and culture of India.
For my first assigned unit in my practicum I decided to use a variety of centers to teach the students. My unit consisted of 6 different centers that integrated a variety of skills and learning experiences. My students loved these stations and were excited to work at them and looked forward moving on to see what the next station entailed.
My Social Studies lesson, I feel, was very successful today with all four grade 8 classes. Within 40 minutes I had my students read out of a text book, watch two videos, and had a writing activity. I also feel that my exit activity was really strong. The students were very engaged all throughout the lesson. I taught like a pro today! To review for the chapter 11 quiz, I found a Notebook template file for a review Battleship game. I thought it looked awesome and that the grade 8's would enjoy this activity to help them review before their quiz. My 8C class enjoyed playing Battleship but 8D was much more enthusiastic and more strategic in their moves. However I did have to stop a few times to regroup/refocus the class. My ability to gain control of the classroom is getting better, especially as the students see me more as an authority or teacher figure. The Battleship game is a great review tool but the downside is that the review questions can only be multiple choice or true/false. This makes it a bit more difficult to make higher order thinking questions.
I have attached the components of my inquiry-based unit plan for my PSII placement.
